Is your period tracker private?
By the LunWise editorial team. Updated October 11, 2026. 4 minute read.
Period and fertility data is some of the most personal information you can put in an app. Before you choose a tracker, it's worth knowing exactly what happens to it.
Six questions to ask any period app
- Does it sell or share my health data, including with advertisers or data brokers?
- Does the app include advertising or analytics trackers that see what I log?
- Can I download everything I've logged, in a format I can open?
- If I delete my account, is my data actually erased, or kept?
- Do notifications show cycle details on my lock screen?
- Is the business model clear? If the app is free, how does it make money?
Why it matters
Regulators in the US have taken action against health and period apps that shared sensitive data with third parties, and some US states now have specific laws for consumer health data. The best protection is an app that collects only what it needs and never shares it.
How LunWise answers them
- We never sell or share your health data, and there are no ad trackers in the app.
- You can download everything as JSON or CSV at any time.
- Deleting your account erases your data immediately.
- Discreet notifications keep cycle details off your lock screen.
- LunWise is a paid subscription, so our business is the app, not your data.
- Fonts and assets are self-hosted, so visiting LunWise doesn't send your visit to third-party font services.

Questions and answers
Do period tracking apps sell your data?
Policies vary by app, so read each one. Look for a clear statement that health data is never sold or shared, and check whether the app contains advertising trackers.
Can I delete my period tracking data?
In LunWise, yes: deleting your account erases your account and every log immediately. You can also download a full copy first.
